ADHD is a condition where people:
- seek out constant novelty
- can’t hold a consistent schedule
Apps I use:
- Focus Bear
- clearly a labor of love built by an for people with ADHD
- it’s honestly quite buggy and sometimes frustrating but this is somewhat the point
- Is it really a bug that it doesn’t let me open certain apps at certain times even if this wasn’t programmed? Do I really need to be opening those apps
- Beeper
Advice:
- MINIMIZE - MINIMIZE ALL POSSIBLE DISTRACTIONS AND THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO
Research attracts a disproportionate amount of people with ADHD
For me ADHD is fundamentally a problem about self control, i. e. I know i should/shouldn’t do X but I still don’t do it
Therefore to fight it here are things I recommend:
-
get medicated
- take medication — find rhe fight one for you, everyone i know who has stuck with it has found a good match eventually
- you can
-
morning and evening routine + a way to enforce it
-
focus bear — forces you to do your morning tasks, for me I don’t have problems with lying to it but if you do you can try more extreme alternatives
-
todos
— capture everything EASILY (todoist? Amazinf marvin? Sunsama)
— GTD method -
batch meetings to prevent fragmented focus
Start with what time you want to eat lunch — lunch should be social activity so figure out that, or figure out if you even want to eat lunch
Focus blocks work in sessions
Be nice to yourself
Work on something you’re passionate about/interested in — else it might be dead for you
ADHD people are super fun and creative and cool but you just have to find a way to channel it
Be more active and less REACTIVE - remove notifications unless they are to remind you of timely events
- Get medicated
- Exercise
- Have a morning routine and get an app to force you to do it —> focus bear
- Find your people —> people with ADHD LOVE talking to other people with ADHD —> we’re the only ones that can keep up. Finding those people will give you such crazily deep connections it’s almost scary
- Stay well-nourished — ADHD meds will kill your appetite. It can be tempting to not eat as that an also improve your focus. After a few days this WILL backfire.
